Dog Biking/Jogging

The Pet Depot Dog Biking and Pet Sitting Service

How do I describe such a one-of-a-kind dog service? Basically, dog biking involves your dog receiving amazing exercise safely jogging alongside me, on a bike.

What are the great benefits to Dog Biking? Jogging is fabulous, fun exercise for dogs and provides plenty of health and behavioral benefits. Regular exercise reduces your dog’s risk of heart disease, diabetes, obesity, arthritis, digestive problems, and urinary tract infections. Furthermore, an active dog is less prone to boredom, depression, anxiety, and stress. A properly exercised dog will be in better condition, more relaxed, and well-behaved!

Dog Biking Safety Measures:

  • I use a special attachment specifically made for jogging a dog alongside a bike. This device will keep your dog at a safe distance from the bike, prevent him/her from moving in front of the bike, and absorb the shock from sudden movements.
  •  A harness is highly recommended for use with jogging as it provides better safety control as well as comfort for the dog.
  • Jogs are kept around 30 or 45 minutes and kept at the pace of the dog. This prevents your dog from being over-exerted.
  • It is recommended that dog biking services be used 1-3 days a week so that your dog can rest in between days of exercise.
  • Only breeds well-suited to longer durations of jogging would be appropriate be for this form of exercise.
  • For prolonged exercise such as jogging, dogs need to be fully grown.
  • Biking a dog requires a dog that he/she is well-trained on a leash (no pulling, follows basic commands, has self-control around other people and pets when walking).
  • Even overweight and out of shape dogs can benefit from jogging. I will just tailor an exercise regime suited to your dog’s physical condition and it will improve overtime with your dog’s conditioning.
  • Non-toxic paw wax is used to protect your dog’s paw pads from potential cuts from jogging on asphalt. The wax also protects paws from the heat of the pavement.
  • Water and bowl are brought on every bike ride so that your dog can stop for water breaks as often as needed.
  • For the safety of your dog, Dog Biking is not a year-round activity. Extreme weather of heat, cold, and rain will dictate when this service can be offered.
  • All bike jogs start with a warm up that leads to a jog. Then, we will end with a walk for a nice cool down.
  • I recommend you consult with your veterinarian before starting any new exercise regimen with your dog (the same disclaimer we receive for human exercise).
Remember, a tired dog is a good dog! The Pet Depot’s Dog Biking Service is a GREAT EXERCISE PROGRAM for creating that good dog in your life! If your dog is not a match for Dog Biking, then I recommend my Dog Walking Services to provide a level of exercise better suited to your dog’s breed or temperament.
